BRENTON Pennells' success on the course so far this year would be enough to make most golfers happy.
But for the 16-year-old City Golf Club member, 2009 is only just warming up and the best might still be to come.
Pennells this year has helped underline his emergence on the Queensland junior golf scene as a member of the successful City Division One pennants team and with his recent victory in the Brisbane Valley Classic.
His Toogoolawah Classic win with a one-over-par 72 qualified him for a start in this year's Greg Norman Golf Foundation Junior Masters during December.
The Masters is one of six major tournaments the Harristown High School student is planning to tackle prior to Christmas.
They will all be part of a build-up he hopes can take him to next April's Australian Junior Boys Amateur Championships.
Pennells has qualified for the last two Australian Amateur Championships but he has been unable to compete in them due to the financial costs.
Pennells has worked his handicap down to three after taking up golf as a nine-year-old.
Other career highlights include a third placing in the 13-years division at the 2006 Greg Norman Masters.
“That was one of my most enjoyable performances but being a part of City's Division One pennants win this year was another great highlight,” Pennells said before starting his after-school job at Fairway Golf Driving Range.
“We finally got it and to be able to win it for the team on the first play-off hole was great.
“It was a different sort of pressure playing for team-mates and not just myself.
“I've got a very busy end to the year coming up now.
“I'm really looking forward to it and I just hope I can somehow get to the Australian titles in April.”
